Volunteering

The heartbeat of Bur Bur and Friends® multicultural children picture books and products is to encourage children to be active, healthy and to fully embrace life.

A key part of living a healthy life is making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Even young kids can make a difference. Volunteering side-by-side with your child teaches compassion, builds self esteem and fosters an attitude of gratitude.

Not sure how to get started?

  • Look for opportunities that match your child's interests.
If your child likes animals, volunteer at an animal shelter. Participate in a clean-up day at your children's favorite park or beach.
  • Find activities at your child's ability level.
Preschoolers can help bake cookies for a bake sale, pick out clothes and toys to donate, or visit elderly residents at a nursing home.
  • Call local organizations you support and ask how you can help.
Explain that you'd like to include your child. Many organizations are happy to accommodate families volunteering with young children.
  • Know your child's limits.
If your child can only sustain interest for 30 minutes, that's okay. You can increase the duration of volunteering sessions as your child gets older.
